Our Dogs

A Cinco de Mayo baby, Tango came to live with us on May 5, 2006. He has been an eye catcher from the moment he hit the ground. As he ran through our front yard in the weeks following his birth, we almost had car accidents in front of our home, as drivers slammed on their brakes to get a better look at this colt.

His breeding and looks will allow him to be either a contender in a show ring or a loved family horse. When he was born, he did have that lanky, leggy look of most newborn foals. He was proportional, strong and running almost immediately. He has never looked gangly.

His proud father lives here at our home, and is named Chance of Golds Don Juan. He stands 32.5 inches tall. Tango's buckskin coloration comes from Donny's grandpa, the famous Boones Little Buckeroo (30.5"). Other famous names in his sires lines are Buckeroo, Helmlock Brooks, Little Kings Buckwheat (31.250"), Komokos Little Husseler, and  Komokos Little King Supreme. See the pedigree by clicking here. (You can see the horses in his lines by clicking on their names). Boones Little Buckeroo was so famous that they made a Breyers statue after him. Kokomos Little Husseler is another big name. The prices that these stallions sold for was shocking to me. Boones Little Buckeroo sold for $100,000!

The beautiful momma (see Turbolina's pedigree here), double registered also, is equally sweet and quickly changed mom's attitude about minis. Her lines include Hartins Sundance (27.5") and Hemlock Brooks Prince Cognac (30.0"). She wins everyone's heart. She walked into Jessie's heart on Christmas morning when she walked through our home and right into Jessie's bedroom.

A first kiss!

In baby Tango, both his mom's sweet eye and his father's boldness is captured. He is inquisitive, playful, very used to handling by children, and loves a good scratch.

We suspect he will remain a buckskin in color with his blue eye and zebra striping on his forelegs. Before we body-clipped him, we were sure he was going to be a buckskin.

At the end of July, we shaved off all of his baby fur and were surprised to see Grulla coloring beneath. But the hairs are already growing back and making us believe, he will claim the color of his famous grandpa, Buckeroo, and be a Buckskin! Here he is the day of his body clipping.

We have been told that there are not any Buckskin Miniature Horse stallions with gorgeous heads and faces. He is out to change that! What a great dished face, wide-set eyes and small ears!
Keep visiting us as Tango grows up. He will most likely mature around 32" tall. There is a yellow buckskin glow all over him just one week after shaving him as his buckskin coat returns. Of course, more pictures to come!
These pictures were taken right after we body clipped Tango and coat is darker. However, even a few days after clipping him, there was a golden fuzz as I think what will be a buckskin coat returns. Here is a picture taken on Aug. 6 about a week after we body clipped. Note how his neck and face are regaining the buckskin coloration.

He loves to be scratched and rubbed. He can't help but turning his lips inside out when we scratch him for it feels just too good. Yes, Tango is friendly. He has never offered to kick either and did really well for the hoof trimmer when she has come.

Our Colt gets a ton of loving. We take him into a little pasture in our yard daily where he can run and graze on the green grass. Then at night, we move him and mom back to their stall in the barn. We have haltered him every day to move them back and forth. We have also been working on teaching mom to drive a cart. There is a super sweet lady in Cave Creek who sells the Frontier Easy Entry cart for just $450. Anyway, we drive mom around a 40 acre field in front of our house and Tango comes along on a halter. So he has had lots of practice on the halter.
