There is no exact way to
predict adult size of your puppy. There are different charts and different
theories. I have included one chart below for you to look at. Also very
valuable is looking at the bloodlines and the sizes of the dogs in the
pedigrees.
Different theories that come
into play are:
"The Double It" This predictor
says to double the weight of the puppy when it reaches 12 weeks (for a small
breed dog and 14 weeks (for a large breed dog) of age.
"The Skin" Examine the skin.
The looser it it, the bigger your pup, for he needs to grow into all that
excess skin
"Bone Plate Closures" Remember
Epiphyseal plates when studying your bones? Dogs have those plates too and
they close between 8-11 months of age. These are their growth plates.
Extrapolated...this means that a puppy will have 75% of its mature height by
the age of 6 months.
